Florida Cake
Florida Cake

Greetings from sunny Florida! My mom and I took a road trip to see my grandma and other family members . . . and since my grandma is savvy, she sees all of my cake pictures on facebook. I thought it would be a nice treat if I made her a cake while we visited.

I baked the cake and made fondant before the trip, and brought along modeling chocolate and other cake tools. Lesson learned – if you leave modeling chocolate in the trunk, it will melt. Thankfully, most of it was still usable.

My proud momma wanted to document/photograph every single step of the process, which included nearly dropping her phone on my head (gotta have a bird’s eye view, you know) . . . it was thrilling.

I wanted the cake to have a summery, Florida feel . . . so my mom suggested flamingos and I ran with it.

After all, what says Florida more than flamingos and palm trees? 🙂 The cake was white almond with vanilla buttercream, with fondant and modeling chocolate details.

Gotta say, white almond with vanilla BC is a great combo – and the cake didn’t last very long, which is always a good sign!
