This past Wednesday was my 30th birthday (woo hoo!). I love birthday week . . . you have an excuse to eat lots of cake . . . and to say I had lots of cake was an understatement!
My roommate and bestie was sweet enough to get me a tres leches cake (one of my favorites), as well as putting up the best streamers our house has ever seen. Seriously – she’s officially the party decorator now, with her mad skills.
I also had an order for some mini cupcakes and sheet cake for a baby shower.
My client sent me a picture of a quilt that the momma-to-be has for baby – with cute pink and green animals that I used as my inspiration. The mini cupcakes were strawberry and vanilla, and the cake was vanilla with vanilla buttercream. I made the decorations out of fondant and modeling chocolate.
I think the ombre turtles were my favorite!
I also made a 3-tier cake for my birthday party . . . with bright pink frosting and sprinkles of course! The bottom tier was funfetti cake with funfetti frosting, the middle tier was vanilla cake with peanut butter and reese’s filling, and the top tier was vanilla cake with nutella filling. The entire outside was that heavenly swiss meringue buttercream.
I have to say that the cake tried to lean . . . a LOT. upon first assembly, I didn’t have my supports straight enough . . . so I disassembled the cake and added more support. The cake was better, but not perfect. I hope that you can’t tell by the pictures 🙂
It was a great week – thanks to everyone who helped me celebrate and eat cake 🙂
PS – two years ago, I made my own birthday cake . . . but it looked like this (can you believe it?):
